Okay-this isn’t a topic I was planning on writing about until I realized what an issue it is with myself and others! Deodorant is one of those awful cosmetic products that, let’s be honest, is beyond necessary but can be SO awful for us if we aren’t choosing a safe/clean option. I’m on pregnancy three and each one has presented a different change in my hormones-this time, body odor (let’s be clear, NOT perspiration, actual odor-yikes!) is an issue if I don’t use the right deodorant. I’ve spent the past several months testing some of the best brands who are very transparent with their ingredients to find the best one for me. I like to use healthy, clean, organic products that are as chemical free as possible. Usually, this isn’t an issue as I am a consultant for Beauty Counter and have done my homework on the best products for my family BUT deodorant is another thing. For quite some time, I was struggling to find a clean deodorant that worked! I was a bit stinky when I didn’t need to be. Here is the breakdown of the four deodorants I’ve found the most success with and encourage you to try several to find one that’s right for you! (every body is different) Here they are in order of my least to most favorite:
Tom’s is a brand that gets mixed reviews because of it’s now parent company, Colgate-Palmolive. That being said, the brand Tom’s is still one that I do like to support if I am in need of a product that I can’t find elsewhere. On my quest to find the best deodorant, I gave Tom’s some solid time. While I did feel like it worked and help lessen any smell or sweating, it wasn’t long-lasting and I felt like odor still snuck through.
I’m a big fan of the EO brand and I love that my local Whole Foods carries their products. This deodorant was really nice, the lavender wasn’t TOO sweet, and I liked that the application was with a spray. That being said, again, it still didn’t seem to be strong enough to help with some smell even after several re-applications.
Cold Spring Apothecary is a brand that I LOVE and I was so excited to find out they had a deodorant. This deodorant smells incredible and works extremely well, BUT you do need to re-apply from time to time. This might not be the case for everyone, but for me, I felt like it was a bit runny and didn’t provide enough long-term coverage.
My very favorite so far is the Fat and the Moon brand. It provides consistent, long coverage, I have yet to have any issues with smell. The brand is small batch, homemade and very transparent with its ingredients. If there is any con, it is that you have to scoop it out with your finger and apply as oppose to a spray or roll on application.
Good luck in your testing process (and maybe warn close friends and family before you embark on this journey-ha!)
